Upendo Means Love! Several years ago the women of the Kilifi Methodist Church became concerned at the growing number of children begging on the streets of Kilifi - a phenomenon not previously known in this tiny Kenyan town on the coast of East Africa. They realised that more and more of the kids were losing their parents due to AIDS, and although most were taken in by other family members, the poverty level here meant that the families just could not feed the extra mouths. What followed is an extraordinary tale of hope and determination against the odds. Find out more about this amazing story, and the fascinating woman behind it all, Grace Mzungu, and her supporters, please do explore our site and feel free to contact anyone on the Contacts page. Learn about more of the people involved with Upendo; the project is run by a church group but supports children, and is supported by people, of all beliefs: it is essentially humanitarian in its work. The orphans of Upendo and the women who take care of them are desperately in need of support - financial, material, and spiritual. If you have any reservations about supporting this cause, or about its authenticity, you are very welcome to contact them. In March 2007, Upendo became a registered UK charity. This means that donors can claim Gift Aid exemption on their tax.
